post 7 woops think of the other post as 6

"I think I'm beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in that house all this time... it's because he wants to stay inside"

i think this quote means alot to the book, and to mayella and boo. mayella has had experience to the real world and boo hasnt, so its harder for mayella to realize what was going on in life, but to boo it would seem all new, and he would think this is all normal

i chose this quote because i thought it meant a lot to the book and that scout is realizeing why boo has never come out. im kinda starting to think of boo as there gaurdian angel, because he knows whats going on to everyone, and that he has watched them and nothing has gone bad yet.

1. do you think of boo as a gaurdian angel?
2. what do you think is going to happen next in the book?

Chapter 16

Quote Analysis

Quote #1-Beginning of Chapter 16

"So it took an eight-year old child to bring 'em to their senses, didn't it?" said Atticus. "That proves something-that a gang of wild animals can be stopped, simply because they're still human."

2. Response: well I chose this quote because it tells the truth, no matter how insane they get people are people and are still humans. I also chose this quote because it shows how insightful Atticus is

3. Significance: because it gives you a reason why Atticus doesn’t mind them as much as they did. It’s because they are still all humans. Also shows how savage a tamed lion can be.

Questions

1. is this the reason why Atticus is never scared of people in Maycomb?

2. What do you think of the trial so far?

Chapter 14
pg end of chapter 14
Quote Analysis 1."Why do you reckon Boo Radley's never run off?"Dill sighed a long sigh and turned away from me. "Maybe he doesn't have anywhere to run off to....."

2. Response: I chose this quote because it shows how unfortunet peoples lives can be. for boo its so bad that he doesnt have anywhere to run to. it also shows that not only does scout think about why boo is still here but for how sorry she is for him.

3. Significance: It shows that scout is maturing and not only thinking of what people say, but thinks about how people feel. "to crawl into there skin and feel how they do." as i quote from atticus scout is finally seeing what atticus means by that, and not to judge people by other peoples words but by ho0w they are treated and how they react. "cant judge a book by its cover"

Questions (for your group members to respond to)

1. Why do you think boo still stays in that house?

2. Do you think that scout is maturing? how so?

Chapter 10-12

pg:134

Quote Analysis1. Quote: I know what he was trying to do, but atticus was only a man. it takes a woman to do that kind of work.

2. Response: i chose this quote because it shows how Scout is growing up and maturing. i also chose this quote because it has a huge significance on the story because they were raised with out a mother so it is harder for Scout to regonize these things, which shows her maturity.

3. Significance: the significance is that scout is being more mature, and that scout apreciates what atticus does for them and to see how he tries.

Questions

1. how would you go about doing this if you were in atticuses situation?

2. Do you think Scout is maturing? how so?

Quote #4-Middle of Chapter 9

But the only time I ever heard Atticus speak sharply to anyone was when I once heard him say, "Sister, I do the best I can with them!"

quote anaylis and response

i think this means that atticus holds every one in high respect and never gives anyone backsas unless its an argument and if so he responds in a nice way to all. in this quote it shows me that atticus is a reasonable man who always hear out the other person unless they dont listen to him back.

Questions

1. what do you think of atticus?

2. what do you think of this quote (give me a short answer)

TKAM entry 2

Quote #1- End of Chapter 5
How would we like it if Atticus barged in on us without knocking, when we were in our rooms at night? We were, in effect, doing the same thing to Mr. Radley. What Mr. Radley did might seem peculiar to us, but it did not seem peculiar to him.

2. Response: its completly like aliens. we might think they look wierd to us, but to them we look wierd as well. this is the same thing only diffrent.

3. Significance: well it shows you that scout is also thinking about him and is always aware of how other people think. it also gives jem some insight on it as well.

Quote #2: End of Chapter 3
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.

it means that you can never understand someone till you walk in there shoes because then not only do you have your own reason of agreement/disagreement but you also have there if you look from there point of view. its like the saying "living a day in there shoes" this means try looking from there point of view for a day

pgs 20-ending

Quote Analysis

Quote: pg 219: “I felt like an odd ball standing in front of the quiet, empty building, and looked up and down the street every couple of minutes lest the cops come by and wonder why a black man was loitering in front of a white man’s building in middle of the day in Suffolk, Virginia”

2. Response: I just thought it was really funny. I found it funny because they described it really well and it was just plan old true.

3. Significance: well it meant that his search stopped there and he had no hope of finding it even though he looked through every scrap of paper imaginable.Questions (for your group members to respond to)

1. How did you guys like the book?

2. Do you think the book should have ended differently?

The Color of Water
Ch 5-10
Quote Analysis. Quote: “ Folks gots sick and back them days like it was a new dance coming out. Plop! Dead as a doornail.”I wonder why the author talks about death so much and why is he always so straight to the point with it. I think this quote is trying to make it clear that jewish people didn’t try to hang over them as much as normal people do

2. Response: I chose this quote because for one its kinda funny and for serious this is. This also shows on how many different ways people deal with death.

3. Significance: Ruth has had a very hard time in her life with death

Questions

1. why does the author try to focus so much on death and say it to the point instead.

2. why do you think Sam joined the army?

The Color of Waterpgs
Ch 15-20

Quote Analysis: Page 153: He said, “I’ve been waiting for you. I still Love you.” And I was swayed, because I still felt a deep love for him.

2. Response: It shows that no matter how far life can take you, you can always love a person. But if you continue to the next page, he says that he is marrying another person and just like that your throat can be cut (ßmetaphor not actual)

3. Significance: it shows how rough her time has been, and that she life has been down hill and that she truly loved him but the feeling isn’t mutual and you need someone to be there for you also.

Questions

1. Do you think that he was just saying that he loved her or he really meant that

2. How would you react if your true love married someone else? Do you think that she should have reacted that way?

Posting #3 Color of waterCh 11-15Quote Analysis1. Quote: “That’s why there made a fool out of so easily.”2. Response: the reason why I chose to use this quote is because its true. When some race or someone is kind and gentle to others people don’t return the favor and I only want to point this out because it shows how corrupt the society was back then and still is today.3. Significance: it just shows how easily blacks were despised of and why people didn’t like them.Questions (for your group members to respond to)1. Do you agree with what the author says about black people?2. Why can’t she tell her mother?

Posting #1 Color of waterpgs ch1-5Quote Analysis1. Quote: Chapter 4 Black Power, this obviously says that in there Jewish religion they still celebrate black people and are Jewish, depending on what they pick they obviously are under a big influence from black power.2. Quote: chapter 3, Kosher. This obviously says that she was raised orthodox which is a very strike type of Jewdiusm one that argue upon rules. This says that she is from a very Jewish family 2. Response: I chose these quotes because it gives the reader an opnion weather or not that which race they should follow
3. Significance: this will no doubt play a huge role in the book of which sides to pick

Cry of the hunters

Simon: Simon is dead. He was murdered when he was trying to tell everyone that the monster was a parachuter that died. He wasn't the monster, he was trying to warn everyone that someone was trying to find them, that there hopes are still alive.
They killed me, they killed me, i can't believe they killed me. I was trying to tell everyone but no they danced around me as if i was a wild boar, and they started to poke and prod me. I was just an innocent person trying to warn them that its them, that the monster is themselves, that they are the monsters, that Ralph, and piggy are right, to keep our hopes up. No although they just let the savage in themselves come out and kill me.
What's this now they have killed piggy, and now there after Ralph. O no what more can they do to upset civilization. Piggy's mother and and father, Ralph's parents, even jacks parents will be so sad.
“whats this is poor little old Simon dead?” said the lord of the flies. “leave me alone.” said Simon. “ i told you to go back to where you came from, back to the beach, to leave the corpse alone.” Leave me alone.” said Simon. “you although wanted to go to the corpse, i told you to leave it alone.” said lord of the flies. “i said to leave me alone and to leave the kids of this island alone, get out of there heads, make them savage no more!” shouted Simon. Then the lord of the flies was gone.

Roger

Roger: roger is always up to the task, especially if jack ask it. Roger trying to become second in charge is always double ganging in all of jacks fight. Roger is slightly a teachers pet, well in this case a leader pet.
“So when we go in it will be night and it has to be fast. Find piggy, ask him for the glasses. If he says no which he will gag him, then beat him, then take his glasses. Once we have them retreat into the forest again and meet up at the west of the burning rock.” said Jack. “Ok let’s go. On my signal go. Piggy? Piggy where are you I want to talk to you c’mon come on out.” whispered jack.
Alright we got the glasses, the pig now all we need is the cooking and tribe. Hey who goes there? O look its Ralph, piggy, and samneric. Grr great now I’m going to send them off and they will be all mad at me now two. “Wait you two what do you want?” said roger. “We want to speak to jack.” shouted Ralph. “He’s not here right now, and doesn’t ever want to see you again.” Roger shouted back.
“What do you want?” said jack. Ralph looked back and saw a colored face staring blankly at him.
“We want Piggy’s glasses back.” said Ralph. “No.” said jack. Jack nodded to roger notifying to push the lever down. Soon I saw nothing but piggy going over the cliff. I never once looked down to see what happened either

The Truth

Jack: the writer has made jack more savage and has symbolized jack to be the savagery of the island and what lurks in everyone. But jack has let out his savage instincts more then anyone and is willing to commit murder to fill his boat of pain.
Alright guys on my signal we invade the camp and go after the fire. Wait a couple of seconds though so I can replenish our tribe. Ok you will be on the far left side of the fire rock; you will be in the middle ill be on the far right. Ok let’s go.
Go, go, go, go. We are having a feast and I have invited all of you to the feast. Come if you will and then if you don’t want to don’t come then. Jack runs off into the wilderness again.
Soon everyone goes to jack’s tribe. What’s this new thing has joined the dance. Well it shall be our kill then! Attack it, attack it! Kill the beast, cut its throat, spill her guts.

Blastfamy

Ralph: Ralph has taken hold of leadership and is being more and more of a leader. Jack although is rebelling from Ralph and keeps on trying to convert leadership to him. Ralph keeps on telling people to make the fire but with this new threat on the mountain they will now have to create a bigger fire on the shore.
What’s this jacks calling a meeting, I was just about to do this. O well I guess I won’t have to blow on it this time and lose all of my breath. Huh? Jack’s calling about creating a new tribe why? This isn’t going to be good.
O no he’s calling a meeting about creating a new tribe and then no one went to him, ha just to show I’m a better leader. But then he’s gonna get his hunters to go with him and then he’s going to kill a pig then he’s gonna come after piggy then me. What else is he going to do.

Sigh

Piggy: the writer has portrayed piggy as the kid who’s trying to be a know it all by being proud of asthma. (Not a good thing piggy). He’s began to get Ralph’s attention and approval so jack can’t hurt him. He goes about this by tagging along in all of Ralph’s hardships or doing errands, or talking with him.
Geez I wish I didn’t have to do this. Having to watch over the little uns’. Man why can’t I ever get to do things with other people. I know I’ll go and follow them. Crack! O no they might have heard that! I hear one getting close to me, the sweat coming down from my forehead, the heat beating me down and making me heavier. What’s this? He’s gone hmmm jack must have ordered him back or something. Well let’s go again. Wo! It’s like a castle I could totally see this as a better home then what we have, those little huts we have at the beach could be blown away. But this no this is awesome we could take hold of this place and have a fire going in it easy, and the fire would bounce off the walls and make it warmer. Huh? What’s this o no I got to get back to camp! There going to send Simon back o no! I got to get back. But I can’t run. Ill make a b line for it. Yes! I got back to camp just in time!

“Fun”

Simon: the author has led us to think that Simon is a quite, secretive boy who is kinder to the little uns’. Simon is very shy and hates to speak out in front of lots of people. Simon also gets tongue tided when he does try to speak in an assembly.
O what an excellent morning this has been after last night with that assembly and all. Me trying to speak out and say what the beast actually is, I made such a fool out of myself. Then theirs that issue with samneric talking about the beast scaring all the little uns’. What more could go right this morning?!?! I think we should go in the morning I mean it would be safer then going during the night and might actually be able to see what it is.
Of course no one ever listens to me because I’m not jack, I actually care about the younger ones and making sure there not frightened. Jack though all he cares about is killing the stupid pig and Ralph only caring about the fire which is true its very important but give in a little!

Boring

Jack: Jack has become more and more self-centered and meaner to other people since the last time. He goes on and on about how next time he will kill the pig and how he thinks he’s better then the rules, that he shouldn’t follow the rules. Jack is constantly being mean to piggy and thinks piggy is the most annoying fat boy he has ever met.
Why are we having this meeting all they are just a bunch of sissy’s who are scared of some “beastie” I think we should just let them roam free and that’s it. We could also but them in a certain area and not let them out of the place.
Huh what’s with all these rules now? Why is he getting to be so bossy? He should just shut up and drop that conch thing too. If I was in charge I would lay out some basic rules such as break the rules you miss a meal, so on. I would also lay out boundaries to keep them contained.
Why can’t I be leader, I’m the most mature and responsible one. I’m the one that can supply for the tribe. I’m the one with the sense of rules, and law. I’m probably more civilized then any of the others, plus I’m stronger and tougher. Id like to see Ralph and me get into a fight I bet 1000 bucks I would win.

Fire

Ralph: Ralph is the surviving kid’s leader. He doesn’t know much about being a leader although he was volunteered and voted for by the kids more then anything. He doesn’t know how to control the kids or even be a leader.
What’s that way out on the horizon? Ahhh it’s probably just my imagination or a mirage. O well. Hey what’s Simon looking at, hmmm must be that little dot on the horizon. Wait a second it can’t be a mirage because a mirage only works on one person. Then that’s not fake and it’s a ship or some kind of machine! Wait theres no smoke! Why isn’t there any smoke, we should have smoke. No they didn’t leave there post did they. O I’m going to kill them if there not there. Ow ooo ooo ow ooo ow o I hate this mountain and I hate the twins if there not there.
O no there not here, wait why is there a pile of wood here not lit though, o no we can’t light it either because of that fatty that’s soooo slow to get up the mountain! O no what shall we do!
What’s that chanting? I hear chanting. “Kill the pig, slit her throat, kill the pig.” O great just what we need, jack going off into hysteria about killing a pig and him being even meaner to piggy. O geez this night is full of surprises.
“You let the fire go out!” said Ralph. “Ya but we killed the pig!” said jack. “There was a boat, you let the fire go out!” said Ralph. “But we killed the pig!” said jack again. “Ya and while your out there killing some pig, you let our probably only chance to be saved let go!” chimed in piggy. “O you shut up!” shouted jack. Before I know it jack had punched piggy in the stomach and our only source of a fire started was broken.

Piggy: an annoying, smart kid who doesn’t know if asthma is something to be proud of or ashamed of. Piggy thinks things through and looks at every angle there is. He is not often listening to because most people don’t see him as a superior leader; they see him as the fat person who gets in the way all the time.
Why won’t they listen to me, I think of all the brilliant plans. So far I’m the only one that has made good idea that is good, and won’t lead into a horrible disaster. I say build huts for shelter, jack says fire and there off building a fire, and where else but the dumbest place they can put a fire, on a mountain.
I should be leader or at least 2nd in command not jack or Ralph, all there decision have gone from bad to worse. If I was leader I would go build shelters, look for food, and hunt for meat, for the first day. Second day I would try to get a fire done that is if all the huts are done and if they aren’t we continue to build them. Then the next day we should have food, huts, maybe a fire, and if jack has any good skills with a knife or spear we should have meat. But noooooo they decided to go off and build a forest the first day that burned probably nearly half the forest, which was valuable wood for signal fires, or warmth

Simon: Simon is a quite boy who is quite shy and looks down on the younger boys and looks after them. Simone whines when he doesn’t like the things are being done. He starts to say ya c’mon let’s rest for a while.

I don’t understand why are we running back down from the mountain to the “camp” why? Suddenly there was a high pitched squealing. We started to run towards it, it was a piglet stuck in some high creepers. They ran towards it to grab it and kill it. Jack pulls out his knife and as soon as he’s about to strike he is stunned. I kept thinking c’mon stab it already c’mon kill it. The pig frees from Ralph’s and my grasp. We don’t say anything after it gets away. Jack says “I was looking for a place to kill it.” Jack slams his knife into a tree and says “Next time I’ll kill it next time.”
We start to run towards camp again with jack trailing behind us sulking about what happened. When we get back to camp we tell everyone that it’s an island. We also mentioned about the animals and the mountain, and jack again gets mad about the pig. Soon jack brings up to make a fire and everyone agrees with him. As soon as I know it I hear piggy complaining about why the should have listened to him, jack telling him to shut up and everyone else stunned that the entire forest caught on fire!!!

Jack: Jack is a nasty, rude kid who gets mad if anyone thinks very little of him. Jack doesn’t follow any of the rules that Ralph gives to everyone else. Jack feels that his is above the rules and should be the leader.
Jack goes trudging through the forest with his “choir” to the sound that called him. He comes to a clearing and see’s that there is a whole congregation there waiting for someone to speak up. Jack goes towards the person with the shell like horn ready to take demand over them.
Jack explains to everyone who he is and that he is head boy of the choir. Soon they start to talk about having a leader for this small group of boys. They start to nominate three boys Jack, Ralph, Piggy. Only the boys in the choir vote for Jack, everyone else votes for Ralph, no one votes for piggy.
